Geography at

Woodchester Endowed Church of England Primary school

Our Aim:

  • To provide a high-quality geography learning experience which will inspire, in all pupils, a curiosity and fascination about the world and its people.
  • To enable all pupils to gain a greater understanding and knowledge of the world and their place in it
  • To equip children with geographical skills to develop their knowledge through studying places, people and natural and human environments.
  • To provoke creative thinking and instigate questioning minds, encouraging children to discover answers to their own questions through exploration and research.
  • To ensure that there is continuity and progression in terms of subject knowledge, skills application and the development of appropriate attitudes and values.

Thematic Approach

Children are likely to be more engaged in their learning if it has a context and theme that runs through it. Making links helps the children gain a better sense of the world around them. Our topic-based curriculum provides many cross curricular opportunities and helps children to make links across the different subjects studied. All our topics aim to inspire and provide a rich and stimulating curriculum for all children.

Our curriculum is enriched with opportunities that provoke imagination and develop subject knowledge, through a range of trips and opportunities. We also have themed days where the children learn about different places, cultures and religions around the world through different topics.  These are always thoroughly enjoyed by all and deepen the learning experiences beyond the classroom.
